چکیده

A system dynamics model is proposed for analyzing the uncertainty caused by delays and disruptions at the U.S.–Mexican border, and how their effects propagate through the cross-border supply chains. Since Mexico’s geographic proximity and low wages provide logistics advantages to North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), it is becoming a favored manufacturing and logistics location. Nonetheless, crossing the border between U.S. and Mexico remains one of the most important challenges to the NAFTA supply chain competitiveness. Based on literature review and real-life information, the security policies at the U.S.–Mexican border and their cost implications to cross-border supply chains are identified. Information regarding the impact of variability on supply chain dynamics due to ‘‘cross-border effect’’ derived of security inspection policies is provided. Results are based on an auto-industry case study that was chosen due to its process standardization; however, results could be applied to other global supply chains. As conclusions, implications for the design of cross-border supply chains are exposed and future research

A System Dynamics Model for Joint Upstream and Downstream Partner Selection in a Supply Chain Consisting of Suppliers and Retailers

Firms no longer compete as autonomous entities and prefer to join in a supply chain alliance to take advantage of highly competitive business situation. Supply chain coordination has a great impact on strategic partnering and success of a firm in competitive business environment. In this paper, we propose a system dynamics simulation model for strategic partner selection in supply chain. Our mo...

An Integrated Hydrocarbon Biofuel and Petroleum Supply Chain: Designing and Planning a Dynamic Supply Chain Network

One of the main challenges of bioenergy sector development is the cost of biomass supply chain resulted from inefficient bioenergy production from low energy content biomass feedstocks, high logistics costs of biomass production, handling and transportation. Another main aspect to be considered is that the configuration of a biofuel supply chain can be dynamic which evolve over time. Growing de...

Illegal Immigration and Enforcement Along the U.S.-Mexico Border: An Overview - Economic and Financial Review, First Quarter, 2001 - Dallas Fed

2 The U.S.–Mexico border is experiencing an era of unparalleled trade and exchange. But at a time when legal flows of goods and people are at historical highs, so are illegal cross-border flows of undocumented migrants. Illegal immigration from Mexico became more common in the late 1960s, following the end of the Bracero Program in 1964. The Bracero Program allowed Mexican guest workers to work...
